5 Questions To Ask When Buying Your First RV

Families have been purchasing RVs at a higher rate than ever before. Have you decided it’s time for you to tip your toe into the world of RV travel? At El Monte RV Sales, we’re ready to take your hand and guide you behind the wheel of that perfect RV. Making such a big purchase means you really need to know what you’re after. Let’s get into five questions to ask when buying your first RV:

1. Are you looking for something new or used?

First things first – are you set on a brand new RV, or are you comfortable buying used? Outside of the excitement of owning something that has never been owned by anyone else, there are many advantages to buying used over new. At El Monte RV Sales, we have an inventory of newer, professionally maintained RVs that will cost you just a fraction of what you’d pay elsewhere, and much less than what you’d pay for a brand new unit.

2. How much space do you need?

Size is a huge component to RV shopping. Questions to consider:

  • How big is your family?
  • To expand on that, how many beds do you need?
  • Where do you plan to take your RV?
  • How much storage do you think you need?

You can find a good RV in a range of sizes, and which one you end up with ultimately depends on what works best for your unique family dynamic.

3. What kind of travel are you planning?

How do you plan to use your RV? Will you be using it mostly for occasional travel to modern, family-friendly RV parks? Or do you plan to attempt to boondock, travel more off-grid, or even live in your RV on the road full time? The answer to that question could make a drastic difference in what kind of RV you’d be best suited for.

4. What kind of amenities do you want?

Once you can answer the previous questions, it’s time to decide what “extras” you might want. While most RVs come equipped with kitchen essentials and living quarters, there are upgrades available if you are planning to potentially spend a lot of time inside the actual RV. Some even include outdoor kitchens, outdoor bathroom access and more. Once you know what your needs vs. your wants are, you can narrow down the possibilities even more.

5. What is your budget?

When budgeting for an RV, it’s important to be as realistic as possible. There’s no fun in sinking all of your money into an RV if you can’t afford to take it for a spin! Keep in mind that as long as you have your basic RV desires covered,  you can plan to upgrade or add on at a later date. Your overall budget is another reason to consider buying a pre-owned RV – you  may be able to find something closer to what you want/need with a lower price tag.
